Carden Method

Mae Carden founded the Carden Method for learning.  Over a half century ago, she developed a method of teaching that enabled children to understand concepts and material in a new way.  She was convinced that the only way to teach reading was with the phonetic approach.  To phonics, she added critical thinking and analysis.  From the 1930's through the 1940's she wrote her textbooks for the elementary curriculum.  She opened Miss Carden's School for Young Children in 1934 in New York City.  In 1949 she closed it to be able to respond to the many requests from public and private schools for her method.

The Carden curriculum is designed for children beginning at the age of three and builds consecutively throughout the elementary grades.  It develops clarity of thought, logical thinking and conclusions, and confidence within the child that they can succeed.  Miss Carden's method not only gives the child a classical education, but the philosophy that flows through it makes learning a joy.  It also makes the relationship between student and teachers one of mutual respect, and loving support.
